The Sinfonia of "Revelation" |
|
By An-Lun Huang
Markham, Ontario
A commission by the Alliance Bible Seminary of Hong Kong, the oratorio, Revelation, was composed during the period from the Christmas Eve of 1997 to the Easter Sunday of the following year, 1998. Led by Dr.Angela Tam, the whole production was for the celebration of the Centenary of the Alliance Bible seminary of Hong Kong in 1999. The world premiere has been performed by its join choir and the Hong Kong City Brass under the baton of the composer himself, An-lun Huang. Oratorio Revelation consists of an Sinfonia and nine movements: Sinfonia A Toccata and Fugue with virtuosity for pipe organ solo. Its beginning is a toccata-prelude, which shows unsettled, restless feelings leading to a tragic and catatrophic triple fugue in five voices. The theme of the fugue is the same as the final movement: “O Jesus, I wish you to come again.”
