Sid Chow Tan
Vancouver, British Columbia

Born in China, grew up in Saskatchewan and a 35-year resident of Vancouver, Sid Chow Tan is a descendant of Gold Mountain adventurers and pioneers. An anti-racism, human rights and social justice activist, Sid is best known for his over two decades of volunteer work in community media and the Chinese head tax redress campaign.

Sid's current community service includes: National Chairperson of the Chinese Canadian National Council, President of the Association of Chinese Canadians for Equality and Solidarity Society (ACCESS), founding co-chairperson of the Head Tax Families Society of Canada, vice-president of the Firehall Arts Centre and a director of various organizations including: the Slim Evans Society, National Anti- Racism Council of Canada, B. C. Environmental Network Educational Foundation, Independent Community Television - Victoria, Community Media Education Society and the Coalition of Progressive Electors, a civic political party.

A media producer and activist, Mr. Tan is also a member of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)1004 and employed as Seniors Organizer with the Downtown Eastside Residents' Association.
