Montreal, Quebec Thomas To Yan Ng was born in Hong Kong in 1964 and immigrated to Canada at age 10. For some 20 years, Paul has been a commercial artist and illustrator while maintaining his passion for the arts, specializing in oil painting and computer graphics. He notes the importance of the experience in the shooting, editing and animation of “Four Arts” in its allowing him to connect three generations of creativity in one piece. The Four Arts of Qin, Qi, Shu, Hua (music, games of logic, poetry /calligraphy, painting) were inspirational in bringing composers and artists closer to ancient and contemporary Chinese culture. These four disciplines require the rigorous training of the mind and the coordination of the hands. Each of the four sections reflects upon key aspects of each: the strength of music; the playing of “go” as represented by the percussionist playing metal instruments against wood and skins; poetry / calligraphy and the flow of mind and hand; and painting through its creation of other worlds, simply through water color on paper. |
