  Chinese Aboriginals
Chinese Aboriginal Relations

By Tammy Lynne Elder, Su Jian Ping and William D Harry  -  Vancouver, British Columbia

The special relationship between the Chinese Canadian community and the First nations can be dated back to the first Chinese immigrants arriving in Canada.

Facing similar discrimination and oppression, the two communities forged a relationship of mutual support and respect.

Time after time, the aboriginal community offered shelter when there is no other place to turn to and safe haven during race riots.

In many occasions there were cross-marriages. We can still find aboriginal communities in BC with more than 10 percent of the population carrying Chinese blood. And a number of members in the Chinese community to date carry aboriginal blood.

However, this chapter of our history, the history of Chinese Canadians and the history of Canada is largely forgotten or unrecognized.

This short video is not trying to give answer but instead post the questions for us and for our community.

Are we going to let this segment of our history buried forever?
