The original landing of Chinese in Canada is unclear, though history indicates a group of Buddhist monks arrived in North America as early as 458 AD. Canada's attractiveness as a prosperous land was not the major reason for Chinese to immigrate here. Overpopulation, famine, drought, political instability and natural disasters plaguing China during the late 18th century made Canada seem not only a land of opportunities, but also a land of hope.
